Now I just hope the Windows 10 update will install this time around so I don't need the current backup. Making backups is a pain, but are worth their weight in gold if you need them. I spent the day updating and rebooting the laptop. This way I can go back to Windows 7 SP1 with all current updates (as I'm doing an image backup of the HD to an external USB Drive before trying the Windows 10 install again. I just updated the Dell Laptop from Bios A09 to A11. Neither were my other PCs (all DIY Clones) but they worked I got the error "Product Not Tested for Windows 10".

Meanwhile back at the ranch, I tried doing an upgrade to Windows 10 using the source files downloaded to a 2nd USB Stick per MS Instructions. Unfortunately, this won't help you if the Windows 10 install trashed the hard drive and the Laptop won't boot up. I then used the USB Stick to install a "factory fresh" install of Windows 7 SP1 (as this was what my laptop came with) on the new SSD.

On my Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 before replacing the original HD with an SSD. This will create an installation disk for Windows 8 on a DVD or a USB Stick (your choice). If by chance the Laptop can still boot into Windows, you can run the Dell Data Safe Utility that came with the original laptop SW installation.
